AGNA has opened this account with a $25 donation. Bank Mutual was also kind enough to send an email to their corporate office/all employees to ask for donations as well.
President Sean Kane reiterated that the Board will move forward with plans to make AGNA its own 501(c)3.
By obtaining our own 501(c)3 status AGNA would have its own IRS tax code, be able to apply for grants and plan events in a more independent manner. If anyone in the neighborhood is a lawyer or has connections with a lawyer and you/they would be interested in helping AGNA fill out state and federal paperwork to file for 501(c)3 status, please let AGNA know by talking to a board member of sending an email to postmaster@airportgardens.org. Elected Official Corner: Alderman Terry Witkowski
Worked with the State Department of Transportation to receive confirmation of beautification of freeway off ramps in our
district after freeway construction is complete. Alderman Witkowski asked the State DOT to dress-up the off ramps as an introduction to visitors to our garden district.
Due to new traffic patterns with the freeway construction Alderman Witkowski was able to get approval to beautify a rusty wall
on Holt/Howard avenues to give it a better appearance when visitors exit the freeway on their way to the airport.
Working to implement a Taxi Cab Medallion program for the city of Milwaukee.
All cabs must receive a license from the city of Milwaukee to operate. There are a limited number of licenses. Alderman Witkowski would like to implement a medallion program where licenses would be sold at auction. Based on other cities that have this medallion program the city would likely be able to take in more revenue over the current licensing procedure.
Neighbor Crime Watch Update: Nancy Gniot went over the crime activity in our neighborhood over the last 30 days –
o Multiple Car Break-ins/Vandalism – Destruction at the Holiday Inn at 545 W Layton Ave
o Vandalism – Property Destruction at 101 Auto Loan at 235 W Layton, S Pine Ave and S Austin
o Burglary – Break-ins on S Adams, S Logan (Airport Park Area) and S Pine
o Theft from Motor Vehicle on W Armour, W Allerton and S Quincy
o Assault on S Quincy and E Bolivar
Nancy stressed that now is the time to form a strong block watch. All of this crime happened in winter and crime typically
picks up in summer as it gets warmer. Nancy urged the members in attendance to sign-up for the block watch only if it is even a phone line watch. She reiterated that we need to watch out for one another as police
can not be everywhere at every time.
Nancy explained how a block watch works –
Talk to your neighbors to get them signed up (Name, Address and phone number)
When you see something suspicious going on call the police but then alert your block watch captain. The captain will
have select neighbors to help call down the list of neighbors to let them know an incident has occurred and to be aware.
As always Nancy reminded everyone to secure your properties, vehicles, etc... Also, motion sensing lights can help.
Finally, Nancy reiterated that if you have an incident or problem you should not call Police Officer Marissa's desk or cell
phone as she may be on patrol. If you need a police officer please call 911 in an emergency or (414) 933-4444 and Press 9 for a non emergency.
